The second-floor gallery presents a curated dialogue between British landscapes and light abstraction through the works of two distinct artists. Leading British landscape painter Richard Whadcock is renowned for his atmospheric interpretations and captures the dynamism of the South Downs and East Sussex coast, ranging from tranquillity to tempestuousness. His piece, "Waking Day," captures the first light sweeping away the night's shadows, symbolising renewal and evoking the transformation of the Old War Office, while staying true to the British landscape tradition.
