Trained in illustration and graphic design at India's National Institute of Design, Indian-British artist Angeli Sowani’s work draws on a vast spectrum of Western and Asian cultural influences. These are expressed to profound effect in “You”. An acrylic painting on canvas, the faded figures represent the millions of African-American, Commonwealth, and other non-white men and women whose service to the British Empire during the two World Wars has been eroded from the predominantly white narrative of history. “You” is a defiant act of remembrance and commemoration.
