British artist Colette Lavette's paintings use sustainable, cruelty free oils she mixes herself from natural minerals, and which seek to explore human creation and our place on earth. “Riverboat to Pillars of Creation” is a fine example of her Rococo-esque style rooted in mythological narratives. Its title draws inspiration from the far reaches of space, referencing the fantastical nature of deep space research and science. One of two of Lavette’s pieces chosen to be displayed in The Lawrence, it speaks to the common nautical theme inspired by World War I Naval Officers.
