Morpheus’ Soliloquy

British artist Colette Lavette’s paintings, rooted in mythological narratives, feature biomorphic forms amidst expressionist strokes, recalling Rococo and Renaissance art through a modern lens. Central to her work and life is a dedication to sustainability, as well as a keen interest in geological and biological histories. “Morpheus’ Soliloquy” captures the dreams of Morpheus, the Greek god of sleep, in intricate detail. One of two of Lavette’s pieces chosen to be displayed in The Lawrence, it speaks to the common nautical theme inspired by World War I Naval Officers.
