Having originally trained as a medical doctor and holding a PhD in Engineering from the University of Michigan, Indian artist Priya Sundaravalli came to ceramics as a mature student. As a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, her work explores the unity of opposites. This specially commissioned piece, featuring a shower of iridescent white poppies, honours those who sacrificed their lives in 20th-century wars operated from this very building. Symbolising peace, joy, abundance, and the transcendence of the soul, it celebrates life’s mystery and delight.
